LAMP - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP at zubit Technologies.

It was not that long ago I was reading through job requirements for web developers and I kept on seeing the term LAMP as something employers wanted applicants fluent in. Shaking my head as there was yet another application one had to be familiar in I set out to find out what this acronym stood for. Laughing it was exactly what I have been working with for 12 years.

LAMP, Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, has become one of the most commonly used combinations of software used to host websites today. The "P" in LAMP can also stand for Python, or Perl programming. zubit has not done a lot of work in python, but has worked with perl.

Since 1999 zubit has developed most applications where the choice was ours, with PHP. This has not stopped us from working with many other server side programming languages, such as asp, cold fusion or java, but our experience has been more focused with PHP used on an Apache web server, and utilizing MySQL databases.

                 

With ten years in the web hosting business, zubit's Vince Bird has been deeply involved with working on Linux servers daily. Fielding hundreds of support questions by other web developers often could lead to answering a question with "I do not know, but let me check and get back to you". After a few moments of reading documentation, testing something out has added to Vince's experience with LAMP and grown to what it is today.

With computers and software there will always be cases and an approach one has not tried before, but experience working in specific environments one gets to know how it could or should work. Having had the opportunity to field thousands of questions regarding any of the LAMP components Vince provides zubit with extensive knowledge and expertise for this environment.

Over the past 12 years more then half of zubit's clients have been associates who outsource zubit's services. We are comfortable working behind the scenes as we are dealing direct with clients of our own. When need be we also enjoy being able to outsource other's expertise which we feel is key to offering the best service and solutions to our clients.

Over the past decade many of zubit's clients are located all over the world. This comfort in working from afar can seem strange sometimes as after a few years then to meet a client in person for the first time to shake their hand, as you have often worked with them daily and already know them so well.
